Rolex Submariner 1680 “Red” Mark IIII
Automatic - Year 1971
Sold
In 1969 Rolex launches the reference 1680. This is the first submariner with the date function. It is equipped with an acrylic glass called “fireplace glass”. For the first time on a submariner, a cyclope lens is glued to the outside of the glass for easy reading of the date. In the early years of production, the 1680 steel exemplary, sold mainly (but not only) on the North American market, had the submarine inscription in red, before being changed from 1974 by white-writing models.
