The Rolex Air-King reference 5500 appeared in 1957, and continued to be produced until 1989. The collection takes its name from a desire by Hans Wilsdorf to honor the RAF pilots who fought during the 1950s Battle of England in WWII, some of whom had Rolex Oysters on their wrists.
